Sisters and brothers. When Pope Francis was our Holy Father, he published a document in 2015, Laudato Si, in which he praised and called us to care for creation.
He used the language of our common home.
The tradition of caring for creation is a call that goes back to the Book of Genesis, when we're told not only to care for the world, but the language of dominion is used, and dominion means to be good stewards of creation.
So, sisters and brothers, the Church in its Catholic Social Doctrine calls us to an understanding of the care for creation. Whether that's the way we use our energy or whether it's the way we recycle, or the way we look and view the fields and forests and the animals that make up our world.
We're called, sisters and brothers, to be stewards, to celebrate creation and to honor what God has given us—creation as a gift. And if we can do that, the care of creation is not only a way to praise God, but it's a way to make sure we and our world are renewed.
Reflection Questions:
How do I live out stewardship of the earth in my daily habits?
How can I better view creation not just as a resource, but as a sacred gift from God?
What changes can I make in my community to reflect the Church’s call to care for our common home?
