This week we have now shifted into the serious work of Lent, prayer, fasting and almsgiving. As I was preparing for Lent, I just finished reading the third of Father Gregory Boyle's books in his trilogy that began with Tattoos on the Heart. The second Barking to the Choir and his third wonderful work, The Whole Language about the tenderness of God.
And it reminded me of perhaps the great call of this season. And that is the call for us to take on more of the person of Christ in our lives, and to do so, a great invitation for us, sisters and brothers, is to think in the Lenten season of how I can express the tenderness of God in all that I do.
If we were to do that, it would change the way we relate to one another, the way we serve one another, and the way we care for one another. Perhaps this season of Lent is an invitation for us to express ever more deeply our love for Christ by expressing his tenderness for all.
